Parting Shots

I'm back in the states after five unforgettable months in Palau, and missing the fishes already. Here's one last collection of pictures from the last few weeks.

I won't forget all the wonderful people I've met here, and hope to be back again someday!

Last PICRC outing

Yesterday the PICRC crew took me on a farewell Rock Islands/diving outing, just like the one I joined at the beginning of my stay for Chris, Johanna, Katherine, and Danika. PICRC researchers Geory, Uly, Randa, Shirley, Lincoln, our boat captain Jay, and fellow interns Martin, Sacha, and I spent the day boating through the Rock Islands, visiting Jellyfish Lake, hiking up to a ranger outpost station, and diving some of my favorite sites. It was a fabulous day, and I can't thank everyone enough for taking me!

One of my friends who works as a dive guide tipped me off about the "shadow walls" at the edge of the lake, where the jellies are densely concentrated and form an abrupt edge where the limestone walls shade the water. I thought I had seen a ridiculous number of jellies during my previous visits to the lake, but this completely blew me away.

Geory worked as a ranger for years, so we had special permission to hike up to this outpost and enjoy the view.

Our next stop was Blue Holes and Blue Corner, followed by German Channel.

We ended the day weaving back through the Rock Islands, including this iconic arch.
