Clownfishes

Clownfishes, or anemonefishes, are great targets for novice photographers like myself because while most fish huffily speed away or dart into crevices at my approach, clownfish stick around, poking their heads out from the safety of their anemones. I love their bright colors and bulldog faces, and am always up for a good symbiosis.

Orange-finned anemone fish ( Amphiprion chrysopterus); Virgin Blue Hole.

Pink anemonefish (Amphiprion perideraion); New Drop Off.

The same anemone as above, including the larger female. Anemonefishes usually live in groups with a large dominant female. If that female dies, the largest male changes sex and assumes the dominant role.

This brilliantly orange anemone literally glowed in the dim light at the bottom of German Channel.

Detail from above. I think this is another orange-finned but it could be a Clark's anemonefish (Amphirion clarkii).

More pinks; Blue Corner.

Orange-finned; New Drop Off.
